Safari Rating
Within 7 days, get to know the best highlights and most magnificent national parks that northern Tanzania has to offer, while enjoying the comfort of picturesque camps and cozy lodges.
The journey through Tanzania’s north begins at Africa’s most famous mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro. After landing here, the first stop is Arusha, a beautiful lodge with a view of Mount Meru, Tanzania’s second highest mountain. One of the best Arabica coffees in East Africa is grown on its slopes – one of Tanzania’s most important exports. During a coffee tour you will learn everything worth knowing about coffee cultivation in this region and get to know the daily life of the farmers.
The Tarangire National Park is a beautiful and diverse national park, which impresses among other things by its large elephant population. Tanzania’s most famous tree, the Boabab, rises majestically from the ground here and along the Tarangire River plams and acacias line up and offer the perfect backdrop to observe the multitude of animals. Besides the elerphants, the park is also known for its gigantic herds of buffalo, which can number up to 1000 animals.
On your way back from Tanzania’s most famous national park, you will drive up the escarpment of the Rift Valley and cross the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The road winds through impressive mountain forests, along the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater.
Finally arriving at the Serengeti National Park, you are very likely to see elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, ostriches and many other species of animals. If you are lucky, you may encounter a cheetah or even a leopard resting in a tree during the day. Crocodiles and hippos can be found in or near the rivers.
The savannahs stretch across unimaginable expanses, which every year are the scene of one of the largest animal migrations in the world, when wildebeest herds of up to one million animals make their way to new grazing grounds. They are accompanied by zebra, gazelles and antelope, which in turn attract lions, hyenas and cheetahs in search of prey.
On your way back, you will also finally stop at the Ngorongoro Crater itself. This is arguably one of the most impressive UNESCO World Heritage Sites. In no other place will you get to see the Big 5 and countless other species of mammals and birds in such dense numbers. Hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and other animals such as zebra and Thompson’s gazelle roam this unique ecosystem on their annual migration, always followed by lions and hyenas on the hunt for prey. The wildlife sightings here are unparalleled.
